Merry Craftmas

Dec 12th

The Winter 2008 issue of Knitty has been posted.

My favorite pattern from this edition is Fern Glade:

Speaking of super cute and super free patterns, my crafty foodie friend La Fuji Mama passed on this link to her tutorial for using furoshiki (also see below post) to make a fabulous bag! Thank you for sharing LFM!

La Fuji Mama has a fantastic blog that will keep you entertained for hours on end. She posts about all kinds great stuff: delicious recipes (like the toffee I made last weekend), crafty cuteness, her adorable family, and her experiences from living abroad. I highly recommend browsing around on her site.

And for any Bay Area readers, Feria Urbana is tomorrow in Oakland. They always have a variety of really talented vendors. It’s a great craft show, and lots of fun.

Christmas Crafting

Dec 8th

Here are a few fun things for Christmas:

A video tutorial on the Japanese art of gift wrapping, furoshiki. Reduce, reuse, recycle, and do it in a pretty way!

Furoshiki gift wrapping from RecycleNow on Vimeo.

And here is a Martha Stewart tutorial with crocheted snowflake patterns, and instructions for using fabric stiffener to make them keep their shape when hung. I love these and am looking forward to next year when I have the time to make some!

And finally, although it’s unrelated, if you are interested in getting a laugh check out this highlarious link to a gallery of photoshopped celebrities. LOL!

Holiday Happiness

Dec 6th

Indie Sacramento was awesome! Big ups to Tamie and the gang for putting on an amazing event.

Here’s me at the event. Wearing my scarf I knit out of baby alpaca. So warm, snuggly, soft, and not at all scratchy.

I was doing pretty good on the Christmas shopping front, so I only got two things. Something for a person who reads this, so it shall go unmentioned but check out the seller’s site! And – the cutest damn ornament on the face of the planet. I am trying to be somewhat frugal right now, $ince tuition is due next week… but I had to make this mine. Isn’t it lovely!? I’m going to display it year-round. It’s made by Zuliblu.

A few weeks ago we made gingerbread houses with Amy and Justin. It was really fun. Notice the Underwear Ninja plush that I made, in the background. Ha!

Today I made a batch of La Fuji Mama’s toffee. Yums!

Andy and I went to San Francisco on Thanksgiving. It was super fun. Here’s a few pics from our trip.

I have to say, after creating this post and seeing all the fun I’ve had lately, it’s hard to feel sorry for myself while working my ass off for finals. My loved ones help me balance the work with fun. I love you guys.

Cutest Boots Ever

Nov 25th

Merry Thanksgiving to me… Look what I just bought. Oh. Yes.

After reading this post, I was in love with adjustable, three-buckled boots. Just as the author knew her readers would be. Understandably, she didn’t want competition on the style-front, so she declined to name the brand. I cannot blame her one bit. After a smidge of browsing – and while I doubt that it’s the exact same brand – these puppies are flying toward their new momma at this very minute.

I love the cool-weather months and their associated fashions, don’t you?

PS: I’m not telling either. But I know you crafty folks are resourceful.

Journal Making and Party Planning

Nov 24th

I only have to go to one class this week, so let’s say it doesn’t even count. Therefore there are only three weeks of school left until winter break! YAY!!! This has been the fastest semester ever. Yayayayayay! I am registering for classes FOR THE LAST TIME on Tuesday. YAyAYAYYAya!

On Friday I took my BFF Amy to tour the venue for my graduation party while I handed over the signed contract. It was so fantastic to show the venue to someone I love, so they could see why I have been so gung-ho in “I don’t want to tour anywhere else. THIS IS IT!” She was blown away, and my love of the venue was cemented further. Here she is on the patio of the suites that I have booked.

Isn’t it FABU? The big dark building (known locally as “Darth Vader”) is where Amy works. The building where I work is between that one and the direction that Amy is gazing. The Capitol is in the direction that she is gazing, and her husband’s building is further to her left. It’s so fun to be right in the middle of our stomping grounds. I could show you pics of the view of the Capitol, but I want to leave the best parts for the actual party.

GAH! So excited. Ooh – I just realized that yesterday was exactly six months until the party, and more importantly, until I are an college graduat. ;) Heh. Yes yes yes yes! Can you tell that I am pumped that there is a light (and the best party of the century) at the end of the tunnel?

On Sunday I attended a workshop given by Aunt Susan’s (and my) friend Donna on creating journals from scratch. Aunt Bettie was there too, and everyone made really stunning pieces. Here are some of the artists working away:

Here is Donna showing Aunt Bettie the best technique for sewing in the “signatures” (the packets of paper):

And here is Aunt Susan and her fun modern journal:

I hope that you all have a beautiful Thanksgiving and that you keep in mind the importance of what you eat and where it came from (year round).

Thank you Mother Nature for another year of feeding us. I will strive to eat more sustainably in the following year.

Oh – that reminds me! We had our first Andy and Julie’s vegetable garden salad this afternoon! Delicious lettuce and radishes! Broccoli, carrots and onions are growing but not yet ready for harvesting.
