Wallet w00t

Aug 28th

I had so much fun this week making myself a quilted wallet following Darn Kat’s tutorial. It was really well written and easy for a (okay, after this I need an upgrade: advanced) beginner like me to follow. I used three fabrics, whose pattern juxtaposition thrills me - a crocodile fabric that I bought as a pre-cut “Fat Quarter” at Hancock’s Fabric; Robert Kaufman’s “Every Iota” and my most favorite fabric ever - “Los Novios” by Alexander Henry.

I don’t have any labels, so I stitched in my initials at the corresponding step.

I’d like to make a few of these as Christmas gifts. It actually went really fast (although I had a snaffu with my sewing machine) - this should only take you about two weeknights to complete.

I have moved into my new wallet and it is remarkable how light and flat the stuffed wallet is. With eight cards and some cash in it, it’s exactly half an inch thick.

I highly recommend giving this pattern a whirl. It’s a blast! I wrote out some tips that I will post by early next week. I wrote them out for myself as I was planning my attack, since I’m still so new to sewing. When I was finished I realized that they may be helpful for others too.

I hope that you all have a superb holiday weekend. I’ve given myself a 4.25 day weekend. I’m going to get a haircut, have cocktails with a friend, a BBQ at my house with lots of friends, some quality time with my honey, hopefully some gardening, visit Great Aunt Bettie, sew some buttons on my finished Baby Surprise Jacket and take pictures of it…whew! Sounds like bunches of fun. Then Tuesday brings the return of responsibility with the beginning of my senior year of college. I am so excited that this is the beginning of the end in my quest for a freaking piece of paper. W00T!
