Silver Lining
I hope you all had a fabulous weekend!
Sorry for dropping off of the radar last week. I’m working and taking two summer classes, and I had to do a presentation last week. I was SO freaked out about the presentation. All that worry ruined my skin and my mood. But it actually went really well. After two weeks of freaking out, my stress magically disappeared as soon as I got to class. My face didn’t turn beat red, my voice didn’t quiver, my hands didn’t shake, I didn’t stutter… So all that led me to wish that I hadn’t dumbed down the content to accommodate my imagined physical trauma. But my classmates seemed to like it anyway. It was about body image and consumerism. I really enjoyed learning about it.
All weekend I have been writing (or at least thinking about writing!) my final paper and wondering when I’ll study for my other final. Four more days and then I’m free of school for six whole weeks! Ahhhh, I am so looking forward to it. My honey bunny and I are going on a two-person artists’ retreat (heh!), and after that I foresee even more creativity =).
The last time you and I talked I had decided to design a purse, and I have started it! I’d say I’m about 80% finished. It feels so good to work on it. I haven’t designed anything for a few months now, and this is my most ambitious project ever. It is turning out superbly. The last few details will really pull it together so I can only give you a sneak peek as of yet. I have written out the pattern and will post it for free in a few weeks.

I thought I’d leave you with a picture of our backyard. We totally spiffed it up last fall and we are reaping the benefits now. We eat every meal out there on weekends and dinners on weekday nights. Bliss!

PS: I sewed those canvas curtains a few weeks ago - I love them!

Julie! Your backyard is fabulous, how gorgeous! I could play out there all day! I’m really anxious to see your completed purse. Congrats on the nearing end of summer classes too, and by the way, what is this artist retreat all about?
Wow - your backyard is awesome!!! I want to come over for dinner! ha!
I look forward to seeing your new purse design - looks like a crochet/knit combo?
Ima join Renee and Jody when they come over to see your back yard in person–amazing! My yard is about the size of a postage stamp so I’m always enthralled with big yeards that have enough room for a patio and grass… :)
Hello! Thanks for your comments!
Right you are, Jody! The pattern will require beginner knitting experience and advanced crochet experience.
It’s definitely a few days worth of work to complete this project, but I hope that most people will agree that the end result will be worth the effort. The pattern won’t be counterintuitive or poorly written, but it will require the makers’ close attention for the crochet part.
Renee, thank you! Our house has a strange layout for entertaining, so instead of moving we decided to invest in the backyard as additional living area. Now the economy is making us very grateful that we went that route =). The two-person artists’ retreat - that is a camping trip that we will soon embark on, with our camera, lots of paper, pens, markers, and paint!
‘Wendella’ - you three are welcome anytime!
