Simply Sewing
For Amy’s Birthday I bought her a lesson with Anne Cardosa of Simply Sewing. Simply Sewing is Anne’s sewing studio that she runs out of her totally renovated garage in the fabulous neighborhood of Land Park. Amy got a sewing machine as a gift from a family member, so Anne showed her how to thread it and how to change the stitch selection, feet, tension, etcetera.
Here are Anne and Amy going over the fine points of sewing machine feet
And here’s Anne and her student, Jane, in front of Jane’s stunning patchwork purse.
Jane won 1st place in the Dixon May Fair’s Creative Apparel category. Go Jane!
Simply Sewing offers classes and private lessons for adults and children. Anne’s also a lovely person and a pleasure to hang out with, so please check out her website!
In other sewing news, this is finals week for me at school. It’s no biggie though, after the trauma of last week. As you now know, I need something crafty to do in between all of the studying; and finally, after weeks of dreaming about it, I made a wristlet a la Jody’s tutorial over at Javajem!
This is my first sewn accessory =). I have made plenty of curtains and even a puppet stage, but never anything like this. It was easy to make, and it looks so good! Thank you, Jody, for sharing your tutorial with the world!
This was also my first time sewing in a zipper. I don’t know if my zipper was too short or what, but there was a hole after the end of the zipper. No biggie though, I just whip stitched it shut. Also, I couldn’t resist stitching a little embroidered flair, so I did a little daisy on the zipper pull. The only change I made was that I prefer a shorter strap, so I cut it and resewed it a few inches shorter.

I want to make tons more of these. They’re so fast and satisfying! And definitely wonderful for building up the sewing self confidence. This is in the mail right now, on its way to my Mom for her Birthday. Happy Birthday, Mom! xoxoxo

You rock! I love the little flower embroidery! How cool! I love seeing everyone’s version of this pattern – no matter how many I see – each one is different.
Awesome job!
A tip on the zipper – I buy all my zippers longer than I need. Then when I get it sewn in – I cut off the excess – making it the perfect size for my project. By sewing over the zipper in the final step it will prevent the zipper from zipping too far. Hope that helps!
Great work Julie! Your mom is going to love it for sure. You are so talented! Thanks to Jody for the fabulous tutorial and the hint about the zipper. Zippers and I have problems working with eachother
sometimes… great advice Jody!
LOVE IT!!! I can’t wait to go nuts making these things. I’m itching for some stitching!!!
