I Love You, Mary Jane

Love love love LOve love loveloVeLove lOve lovelovElove! Love. Love. It.

If I owned an online craft store, I would wish that it would be this cool.

The colors…the products…the graphic design! *swoon*

I stumbled across the cutest crafty web shop ever, called Mary Jane’s Attic. I love what they carry - the most fun, bright, beautiful, high quality supplies for discerning fiber lovers. Including: fiber for spinning; needle felting foam, needles, wool, kits; felt beads; fun Japanese trinkets; gorgeous handpainted yarn; acid dyes… The list goes on and on.

I recently placed an order with them and received friendly service and quick shipping. I ordered a package of fluffy, curly, hand dyed merino for future needle felting projects, I restocked my felting needle collection, and got a skein of scrumptous Almost Merino.

Here’s what the merino looks like. Isn’t it fun? I like to use it as hair on needle felted people.

I was on the phone with Aunt Susan when I opened the package and saw the yarn. I was so distracted that I honestly had to hang up with her. I was blown away by the beautiful colors. It goes from a deep lilac, to chocolatey brown, a sprinkling of creme, and a pop of turquoise. I love it.

All of Mary Jane’s Attic’s skeins have bold, creative combos of color. Here are a few that they currently have available:

The Almost Merino is a worsted weight single and is wonderfully resilient - I worked out an original pattern with it, which involved plenty of frogging, and the yarn held up perfectly. I was super impressed. The skein was really generous with the yardage too - I wanted to hold two strands together to make a structured brim. I thought I would need two skeins, but the yardage from one skein was plenty for me to make two separate balls while winding.

Mary Jane’s Attic has their own page, an etsy shop, and a flickr with 3,500 crafty pics!!!

I like to read shops’ and blogs’ About pages. That’s one of the reasons I wanted to start Stitchify - to learn about the talented folks behind the URL. Not surprisingly, it turns out that the shopkeeper of Mary Jane’s Attic is one multifacited chica. “Jamie is a college professor and fiber artist, native to the San Francisco Bay Area. Her penchant for everything handmade stems from being raised by her award winning quilter mother and attending art school from the age of 15. She was also an active leader in the San Francisco Craft Mafia, organizes the San Francisco chapter of national craft show Bazaar Bizarre and teaches art through her local community centers.” How cool! She is also an editor of Indie Crafts - CraftGossip Blog Network - which is awesome. Phew! Go girl.

The next Bazaar Bizarre in my neck of the woods will be held at the San Mateo Fairgrounds on May 3 and 4th, and I will definitely be there! Here is a picture of me, Andy, Amy, and Justin at the San Mateo BazBiz in 2006. Represent!
