Clah-pwah
That’s how you pronounce the name of the pattern, Clapotis. Well, maybe not, but that’s how I imagine a fancy cosmopolitan person would say it. Anyway, Clapotis is like a freaking legend in the web-savvy knitting world. It was a pattern featured on the mind-blowingly awesome quarterly e-zine, Knitty, which I told you about last Monday. The Clapotis is my FO that I was talking about.
Here’s the pattern version. Work it, girl!
The only thing about this pattern is - what yarn to use!? The recommended yarn, Lorna’s Laces, Lion and Lamb, is mucho expensiveo. But, you do want to use a yarn that is nice, because you’ll take this piece everywhere. I’ve worn mine in school, at a wedding… No crappy plastic acrylic will do! I really agonized for weeks about what yarn to use. I joined the Clapotis Yahoo Group to see what other people were using as substitutions and I did tons of research. A lot of people chose to go with Noro - Silk Garden. The Noro skeins don’t have as much yardage as the Lorna’s skeins, but overall the Noro is about 2/3 th cost of Lorna’s.
After careful consideration (including polling my friends and family to see what color was best), I finally decided to use the recommended yarn, in the color Black Purl. It is so so soft and the silk has a slight sheen. But it pills like madness and it super expensive.

BTW: The pattern calls for 4 skeins of Lorna’s, but mine was only 3. It was close though, so it’s up to you how many skeins you want to buy. I love mine, but I want to make another one with a different yarn.

The pattern itself is really manageable and fun; and there is plenty of support on the web for beginners who want to tackle it. For this and all patterns, yarn selection is a great way to add your own personality into your projects, so be adventurous (unlike I was!). For more claptasticness, check out Clapotis on Flickr and the Clapotis Yahoo Groups.

Your clap looks great! Instant classic!
That looks cute, and I love the yarn you choose.
Hi! I think I’m ready to try my luck at this one. Do you think it would work with Lambs Pride? I know it’s wool, but I think I would look pretty cool.
Thoughts?
