Magnafying Magnets
One day I was messing around on the intarwebs and stumbled across a marble magnet tutorial by Not Martha.
The first time I tried to make these, I used flat-ish marbles (I accidentally got the kind with a sheen), and they were not too nice looking. So I took the advice of one of the commentors and started using 3/4″ cabochons from TAP Plastics. Cabochons are basically like 1/2 of an acrylic sphere. If you don’t have a TAP in your area, you should be able to find the cabochons at a local plastics store, or online. BUT, cabochons are not cheap. But they work so much better. It’s kind of a toss-up.
I use Jewel-It adhesive and magnets from Michaels. I also bought a mondo 1″ hole punch doohickey from Michaels. The punch isn’t necessary, but it sure does make things go faster. The size isn’t exactly perfect, your picture will still need to be trimmed a little bit. But it will save you lots of time. I get some random magazines, which are great magnet fodder. I get Lucky because it came with an order from Amazon, and I get… Country Home! It came with Better Homes and Garden or something. Anywho, I get these magazines that I don’t really read and just rip out whole pages that look pretty. Then I take a cabochon and hold it over the image to see if it would make a good magnet. If it will - I punch it out!
Here are a few of my magnets from my massive stash. Let’s see if I can remember…. I think the pink designs, faces, eyes, lips, and black plus signs came from Lucky. And the silver and black scrolls came from a Pottery Barn catalog. I don’t remember where the Queen came from.

I LOVE making these things. They are silly-easy, but addictive. So go check out that Not Martha tutorial. This is a really fun craft and make great gifts =)

Hi!
I love your magnets! We should have a BBHJ/magnet making night. I still need to learn how to make jewelry with chain too. Ah, I heart crafting. =)
