Weekend Round-up

Mar 5th

Like I said, our weekend was FLIPPING BADASS!

So we landed in Houston at 5am on Friday. My dad picked us up, wearing his hat and boots, since it was Go Texan Day, which was a really fun welcome to Texas. We headed to his house, and a few hours later we got to see some trail riders coming into the city from other parts of Texas, on their way to the Houston Rodeo. All the riders (there were a bunch of them) were super friendly, “How y’all doin’?”

Then we went to my favorite Houston restaurant, Pappasitos, for lunch and their yummy bevs called Waves.

I only had a salad and chips - because later that evening we went to the venue that will host the rodeo for the most gigantic bar-b-que you have ever seen, the World’s Championship Bar-B-Que Contest. The event was only for three days, and hosted over 200,000 people! Here’s a shot of my dad at the ‘Q.

After the bar-b-que we went to an NBA game - the Houston Rockets v the Memphis Grizzlies. It was a blow-out, and was really fun. I’ve seen the Sacramento Kings a few times, and the Toyota Center really proved to me that Arco Arena needs to be replaced.

Anywho, the next day Andy and I drove to San Antonio. We checked into our hotel, and went to go play at the San Antonio Riverwalk. It was sooo pretty, and the weather was gorgeous!

We popped into some really cool Mexican shops, and took some pictures for your viewing pleasure:

And look at this AWESOME thing. It was labeled simply, “ski mask”. Talk about an understatement!

So after our fun on the Riverwalk, we rushed back to the hotel to get spiffied up for my good friends’ reception (the original purpose of the trip). Veronica and Steve had gotten married the previous day at a private ceremony.

We arrived at the venue and were totally thrilled to be greeted by none other than the happy couple. Their reception was mostly informal, which was so awesome. We didn’t have to stand around with a bunch of strangers, waiting for our friends to arrive. Veronica and I were roommates during freshman year at Texas A&M (what I fondly refer to as: College - Round One). Here we are, Roolie and Verchronica.

Veronica is a veterinarian and her hubby is a DJ. Their friend, Reverend Butter, made them a really bad ass ice sculpture which incorporated an LP and a stethoscope. Here is the bride and her super long fingers in front of the sculpture.

The couple kindly opened up our gift. It’s Ganesh, the Hindu god of marital happiness, new beginnings, and protector of doorways. Vedz and Steve are cool enough to dig such a gift.

Here’s how cool they are - their centerpieces were cake candles with freaking Homies on top! Love it!

The venue was blow-your-freaking-mind AWESOME! It was a few miles outside of the city, and had a beautiful view. Here’s their official site: The Bushnell.

Here’s the happy, happy, madly in love couple

I made you a movie of the view and music. Steve’s DJ buddies played. It was SO FUN. I danced for like 4 hours straight.

The next day, by amazing self control, we got up at 8am and walked to El Mercado to check out more ethnic goodness. I bought a freaking awesome shirt with dancing skeletons on it. Here is a little bit of pretty from El Mercado.

Best weekend ever.

Oh yeah, I forgot to say before- The Bushnell is actually in San Antonio’s mid-town and that is what makes it so inconspicuously amazing, you’d never know it was there but when you get there you wonder how you ever missed it.
360degree view of the city on a gorgeous, blissful day- what could be sweeter????
